A booklet for managing emotions through “art and robotics”
For several years, Elisabeth Colombo has been exploring the links between artistic creation, emotional intelligence and emerging technologies — with Buddy as her creative partner.

With The 12 Maxims of the Little Samurai, Élisabeth Colombo offers a unique artist’s book, at the crossroads of painting, poetry, and robotics — extended by an interactive experience developed in collaboration with Buddy
An artist’s book born from an inner journey
Conceived as a true work of art, this book was born from an inner journey where three essential dimensions of Elisabeth Colombo’s work meet: the exploration of emotions through painting, the wisdom of the samurai way, and the dialogue with technology.
- A pictorial work: Each page features a work from the world of the Scarlet Warrior, a figure of resilience and transformation at the heart of Elisabeth Colombo’s artistic approach.
- A samurai maxim: Simple, accessible, profound: each maxim is inspired by the way of the samurai and invites reflection on oneself, one’s emotions and one’s relationship to the world.
- An interactive extension via QR code: Each page opens onto a video accessible via QR code, allowing the experience to be extended beyond the book and entering a space of dialogue between art and technology.
- Artistic challenges: Some pages offer creative challenges, inviting the reader to enter into a process of emotional exploration through creation.
The book is not just meant to be read: it invites you to look, feel and experience.
A limited-edition artist’s book
30 numbered copies, signed and marked with the hanko seal
This first edition was conceived as a limited-edition artist’s print, produced in only 30 copies. Each copy thus becomes a unique object, both intimate and transmissible a work of art in its own right.
Buddy, creative partner and emotional mediator
But the project doesn’t stop at the book. To extend the experience, Elisabeth Colombo, in collaboration with Buddy, developed an interactive extension including the 12 maxims of The Little Samurai as well as a module entitled The Wall of Colours.

Interacting with children
Buddy initiates conversation, asks questions, listens and responds, creating a natural dialogue that facilitates emotional expression.

To create a reassuring atmosphere
Her gentle and expressive physical presence fosters confidence and reduces anxiety, which is particularly valuable for children with special needs.

Enriching the creative process
As a technological muse, Buddy inspires, accompanies and stimulates creativity, becoming an active partner in artistic co-creation.
These devices allow for a dynamic dialogue with the user, combining emotion, expression, and interaction. In this approach, technology does not replace the human being; it becomes a sensitive mediator, facilitating the expression and understanding of emotions.
Very encouraging initial feedback
In this collaboration with Buddy, technology does not replace the human: it becomes a sensitive mediator, facilitating the expression and understanding of emotions — where painting and poetry had already paved the way.
This relationship allows us to explore new forms of creation, at the boundary between human and technology where human sensitivity and the robot’s ability to interact complement each other to open up unprecedented spaces for expression.

Very encouraging initial feedback
This approach has already been tested in various contexts, with very positive feedback. The use of the booklet with Buddy has proven particularly relevant with autistic children, for whom the relationship with the robot provides a stable, structured, and non-judgmental environment.
A feeling of relaxation and refocusing
Better understanding of one’s own emotions
A calming effect was observed in an autistic child
Facilitating emotional expression
These feedbacks confirm the potential of this hybrid approach, which combines the evocative power of art with Buddy’s interactive capabilities to create an accessible and caring space for emotional exploration.
Beyond the book: performances, readings and interventions
Also presented in the form of artistic performances, readings and interventions, the Whispers of the Little Samurai open new perspectives at the intersection of art, education and robotics.
Through this project, Elisabeth Colombo offers a sensitive and contemporary reflection: how to remain deeply human in an increasingly technological world.
An artist and lecturer, she creates lectures and performances blending art, emotional robotics, and artificial intelligence to humanize technology.
