Educational Robot for Inclusive Education: The SQYpi Project with Buddy
How can artificial intelligence and social robotics help create a more inclusive learning environment? This is the vision behind the SQYpi Project, an educational initiative led by the Académie de Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, partner municipalities and Blue Frog Robotics.
At the heart of the project, Buddy supports teachers and students through interactive learning activities designed to foster communication, emotional development and social interaction. By combining artificial intelligence, emotional robotics and innovative educational tools, the project opens new opportunities for students with neurodevelopmental disorders and special educational needs to participate more actively in classroom life.

A New Approach to Inclusive Educatio
Creating inclusive learning environments is one of today’s greatest educational challenges. The SQYpi Project introduces Buddy as an interactive classroom companion that helps students participate more confidently while supporting teachers in their daily practice.
Using conversational AI, expressive emotions, facial expressions and natural interactions, Buddy creates a reassuring environment where students feel comfortable learning and communicating. As a result, the robot becomes a valuable educational partner that encourages participation, strengthens confidence and supports meaningful social interactions.
Supporting Emotional Learning and Social Development
Buddy offers a wide variety of interactive educational activities tailored to individual learning needs. Through quizzes, memory games, motor skill exercises and emotional recognition activities, students develop both cognitive and social-emotional competencies.
Furthermore, Buddy’s expressive face, voice and interactive behaviors encourage children to recognize emotions, communicate more effectively and engage with classmates in a positive and motivating way. This playful approach makes learning more accessible while increasing student motivation and participation.
