Robot for Classroom: Buddy Supporting Education with National Inclusion Programs
Continuing schooling, even while hospitalized, and maintaining connections with classmates is now possible thanks to Buddy, the Robot for classroom.
Buddy, the emotional robot, has joined the TED-i Robot for Inclusion program. This innovative, inclusive distance learning system uses 4,000 telepresence robots. Provided by the Ministry of National Education and Youth, it supports the education of students unable to attend school due to serious and long-term illnesses.

A closer look at the Buddy telepresence system
Buddy allows remote users to experience an immersive connection by transcending physical distance and fostering a sense of emotional connection with others.
Its sleek and streamlined design, with its gently curved body, large, sparkling eyes, and radiant smile, evokes empathy and a desire to interact.
Equipped with a multitude of sensors, cameras, speakers, and microphones, Buddy can move, detect obstacles, and even feel touch, enabling natural interaction.
Indeed, Buddy’s telepresence function can instantly place the user anywhere in the world at a remote location. It thus offers a physical presence through virtual engagement, connecting the user with others in a unique way.
Buddy’s features are varied. For example, they give students with disabilities the ability to:
- Raise your hand to ask to speak,
- Express yourself orally and in writing by typing short texts,
- Look in all directions while controlling the robot’s head,
- Approach the board and take pictures of the teaching materials.
Buddy allows the child to interact with others through audio and video feedback.
